Community members, healthcare leaders, County supervisors and staff celebrated the groundbreaking of a first-of-its-kind facility in the South Bay: a state-of-the-art Behavioral Health Center that will offer mental health services close to home for children, adolescents and adults.

The new center will include inpatient and outpatient medical and psychiatric care, emergency psychiatric services, intake and assessment, crisis care, urgent care and a new parking structure.

Watry Design was selected to design the 714-stall parking structure that will serve center staff. To incorporate flexibility in the event the Center wishes to split use between staff and visitors in the future, the team designed the structure with a speed ramp that would allow for easier segregation of each level and create efficient movement through the building. In support of the Center’s LEED goals, the parking structure will include photovoltaic panels, EV charging stations and provisions for long term bicycle parking.

Rovina Nimbalkar, Executive Director of the Santa Clara County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, called the center a welcome and crucial new advancement for mental health treatment in the South Bay.

“This new center provides something that NAMI’s members have long looked forward to – easier access to life-changing services,” Nimbalkar said. “Now our youth can get the help they need close to home, close to the support networks they have and need to achieve better mental health.”
