When Urban Edge Properties purchased the Barnes and Noble building at the corner of Olympic Boulevard and South Main Street in Walnut Creek, they hired Watry Design to evaluate the condition of the subterranean parking structure. The team was asked to examine the distressed concrete components, recommend appropriate repairs, and develop a preliminary budget for the proposed work. The team also noted non-structural maintenance and/or aesthetic issues to assist with maintenance planning.

Watry Design performed a visual walkthrough of the structure and ranked the recommended repairs according to urgency. Critical issues that required addressing included repairing spalling and erosion of concrete, ADA upgrades, repairing a broken elevator and improving lighting and ventilation.  Other repairs the team recommended included sealing cracks, bringing signage up to code and addressing less time sensitive maintenance issues. The team also created construction documents for the selected repairs.
