Due to a steady increase in ridership on Sounder South and anticipated growth, Sound Transit embarked upon the Sounder South Access Improvement Project, with the goal of not only expanding capacity, but also improving the rider experience. As part of this project, Sound Transit plans to provide structured parking at the Puyallup, Sumner, Kent and Auburn stations.

The team of HNTB and Watry Design, Inc. were selected to provide procurement, preconstruction and construction management services for the design-build garages.

The team worked closely with Sound Transit to provide procurement and design support for the Puyallup Garage. This included ensuring the structure’s design met Sound Transit standards, adhered to building codes and followed parking industry best practices.

The structure features 503 stalls and is designed to fit within the context of downtown Puyallup. Pedestrian infrastructure upgrades include a covered bridge to safely escort passengers over heavily trafficked areas.

Currently, Watry Design is serving as Sound Transit’s Design Manager for the Sumner Station garage, which will feature approximately 602 stalls. Harbor Pacific Contractors has been selected as the design-build general contractor for the project.

The Watry Design team will also be designing bridging documents and preparing the RFP for the Auburn and Kent parking garages.
