Franklin Templeton wanted to consolidate its operations into a new corporate campus in San Mateo, CA. The master plan included 900,000 square feet of office space and three parking structures. As part of the first phase, 640,000 square feet of office space was completed, as well as two parking structures. Watry Design was hired to integrate the parking into the new campus environment. The parking structure's architecture works with the architecture of the new office buildings. A dark base color with a lighter building color was incorporated onto the taller parking structure to work with the dark stone base of the office buildings. The elevator towers were located to work with the campuses pedestrian flow and became architectural elements as well.
The rhythm of the shear walls and columns was carefully designed to complement the office building's architecture. Additional, detailing elements were utilized to create the impression of a smaller structure.
