  U. C. Santa Barbara Mesa Parking Structure
  Santa Barbara, California

This 905 stall parking structure anchors a major new entrance to the beautiful UCSB campus. The project rerouted the major east entrance road into campus, as well as redefining all parking on the north edge of campus. Transit considerations were made at the new entrance and a bicycle path system was reworked into the plan. The design team created a phasing plan to minimize the disruption this large project had on this busy campus.

Watry acted as the Executive Architect for the entire $13 million North Edge development by preparing the design build documents for the University. Renowned landscape architect Lawrence Halprin designed the 17+acre site.

The design team utilized Halprin’s workshop method in the predesign/site-analysis phase to better define the needs of the structure’s users. To provide visual continuity with the rest of the campus, the rails were made using "Campus Block", which is used in many of the campus buildings. Lightwells provide pedestrians connections through the structure.
