San Mateo County Government Center Parking Structure |
| |
Redwood City, California |
| |
|
| |
The architectural expression of structure with stepping and curved beam forms is the main aesthetic feature of this structure. The structure is the center of the campus with features such as bridges, lightwells, and cascading stairs. Watry designed the master plan for the Government Center campus, where resolving the lack of existing parking was an integral part of the solution. In the master plan, the parking structure was sited along the newly created pedestrian promenade that traverses the county’s campus to easily connect the structure to the various buildings. |

Dramatic tower elements at the stairs and elevator mark the pedestrian entry points. The massing of the structure was stepped to reduce its apparent size and create visual interest. The structure accommodates three separate user groups and provides a secured area for sheriff and county vehicles. |
